From River to Breakfast

At Hucho House, breakfast is more than a meal. It is a local story inspired by the huchen, also known as Danube salmon, and by the rivers, aquaculture and fly-fishing heritage of Slovenia.

Our From River to Breakfast experience connects boutique hospitality, sustainable food sourcing and digital storytelling. Guests are invited to discover the taste of locally sourced huchen through a carefully prepared selection of fish-based breakfast specialties, supported by information about the origin of the fish and the local producers behind the experience.

Local, Traceable and Sustainable

The main fish ingredient in our breakfast concept is huchen / Danube salmon, locally known as sulec. For this experience, the huchen is sourced from Ribogojstvo Goričar d.o.o., making the origin of the key ingredient clear and traceable.

The huchen is used in our pâté, smoked huchen, grilled huchen and canapés. Through menu information, visual materials and QR-based communication, guests can learn more about where the fish comes from, why local sourcing matters and how the breakfast supports a more responsible tourism experience.

The breakfast is also complemented by selected local products such as seasonal vegetables, potatoes, dairy products and eggs from farms in the wider Kranj and Gorenjska area.

Digital Storytelling and Guest Information

The Hucho House breakfast experience is supported by digital and on-site storytelling. Promotional and educational videos present the huchen, the breakfast concept, local sourcing and the connection between food, nature and hospitality.

Guests can discover this content through our website and through info screens installed at Hucho House. These materials help explain the story behind the breakfast and make the experience more transparent, educational and memorable.

Developed through the TASTE Programme

The Hucho House From River to Breakfast experience was developed as part of the TASTE – Go Green, Get Digital, Be Resilient Programme.

The project helped us develop a new sustainable food-tourism product combining local gastronomy, traceable sourcing, digital communication and boutique hospitality. The result is a breakfast experience that connects guests with the taste, origin and story of the huchen in a clear, modern and responsible way.
